The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) continues to demonstrate its steadfast commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families with the full support of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the “OFW President” as tagged by Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac.
Cacdac on Monday highlighted the support of the President and the Congress in the implementation of the Php 2.2 billion Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga OFWs na Nangangailangan (AKSYON) Fund that benefitted 135,601 OFWs.
The DMW AKSYON Fund is a comprehensive support system that offers legal assistance, medical assistance, financial aid, repatriation services, and emergency assistance.
“The AKSYON Fund provided assistance and support to around 135,000 OFWs. Hindi nagiging issue ngayon yung pagbibigay ng tulong– legal, medical, financial sa ating mga OFWs because of the full support of the President, at ng ating Kongreso to protecting their rights and welfare,” Cacdac said.
The primary goal of the program is to provide immediate and effective relief to OFWs in distress, ensuring their safety, security, and well-being.
The AKSYON Fund has also provided vital assistance to OFWs in conflict zones, including the repatriation of 3,558 workers from Israel, Lebanon, and the Red Sea. The fund also supports victims of human trafficking and illegal recruitment.
Cacdac also highlighted the unprecedented financial assistance and other forms of support to the OFWs and their families through the program.
“The financial assistance used to be a flat Php 30,000 given by the DMW. But the President told us to review the amount and instructed us to increase the assistance. It is now Php 50,000 for regular distressed situation, Php 75,000 kung nagkasakit yung worker or kung nasa warlike situations. And Php 100,000 naman kung sa kasamaang palad, nasawi yung worker,” Cacdac said.
The Secretary also acknowledged the help and support of its attached agency, OWWA, and other partner government agencies under a whole-government team as directed by the President in providing immediate assistance and comprehensive support to the OFWs and their families.
The beneficiaries of the DMW AKSYON Fund were also being assisted by the DMW's National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO) for their productive and sustainable reintegration in their communities.###
